The long lines of railway track upon which a fortune was built by Cornelius Vanderbilt II have given way to long lines of visitors wishing to see how he recreated a piece of the Italian Renaissance at the "Breakers" in Newport, Rhode Island. Frenzied activities, and hurried visuals now fill the very space that was originally conceived as a place of escape.
